Finally Friday

For a long time now (forever, maybe?) I've worked Friday nights. All of them. Every. One. Which stinks because Friday is a ceremonial end-of-the-week celebration day for most 9-5ers, and hey! I like to celebrate things too! So now that my schedule has changed to give me every other Friday off, I can once again entertain ideas about things like "happy hour" and "rooftop seating" and "drinking in the daytime."
Last Friday - my first - I got out there and did things. Here is the proof and I'll say sorry now for the gratuitous nature shots. Needless to say, this Friday I'll be back in the trenches...let's not talk about it.

PS, I love you

At the beginning of March, to celebrate the last days of Christina's singledom, we (sisters and friends) rendezvoused in the desert mecca of Palm Springs for a weekend of relaxation, poolside cocktails, yoga, food, and girl time.

We rented a midcentury house for the weekend and succeeded in keeping the shenanigans a secret from Miss Chris until the moment of her arrival. (Francis, ze fiance, actually photoshopped a fake hotel reservation and drove our pawn right to the house under the guise of a self-guided architecture tour. Brilliant!)

I was much too busy doing nothing to be doing something like taking pictures, so here's a barebones account of our time in PS.  Deal.

Allie, in from AZ, helping with preparations (plus Mom's orchid).

Approaching dusk in PS, and the stylish house across the street.

Phoebe, entryway.

Aaaand a necessary trip to In-n-Out on the way home.

A pretty fine weekend, indeed. Mention must be given to Mom, party planner extraordinaire, whose dessert spread and thoughtful gift bags dazzled our senses and made for a proper party.  'Twas a hit! We should do this more often...

RMNP - The Loch

We finally left the house and took the camera.

Since we will both likely be working all weekend, we took this Thursday and spent it like a Sunday. It was a sunny, 30-degree day, perfect for hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park.

C chose an area of the park that he knew to be spectacular - up one of several close glacial valleys to a lake. The Loch.

Here we go: snowy, windy approach to the trailhead.

It was gorgeous, despite the wind. We made a short detour on the way back down with hopes of seeing Mills Lake, but were turned away by impenetrable, face-piercing ice wind.

Since the day was still young I demanded a stop at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park (haunted inspiration for Stephen King's The Shining).
